Geana's Daycare

Thank you for allowing me a moment to introduce myself. My name is Geana Gordon. I have been caring for children professionally in my home for seven years and have resided in Monticello for eleven years. I am married to a wonderful and supportive man and God has blessed us with two beautiful children. Our daughter is twelve years old and our son is nine. My dream was to become the best mother, wife, and caregiver that I could possibly be and his was to work at the sheriff department to serve and protect those in need. Together, over the past eleven years, we have helped each other attain those dreams.

We have attended Shiloh Baptist Church for more than five years and it has become very special to us. My daughter was baptized here three years ago and my son hit his first home run in baseball on the church recreation team last year. The people here have become like a second family to us.

I realized my passion for children years ago when I was just a teenager helping my oldest sister raise her five children. At the time I didn’t know how to pursue this dream or where my road of discovery would take me. I still remember the first job I ever had in the child care field. I was hired as a teacher’s assistant and the more time I spent there, I began noticing that a lot of the attending children were not receiving what I felt to be an adequate amount of personal attention and affection from the caregivers. This saddened me: however, it also drove me to one day realize my dream of owning my own child care facility to be able to provide the love and attention that children deserve. So for the next few years I had taken various jobs in the child care field only to continuously be disappointed by the lack of care and concern I witnessed in the larger, non-personable child care centers. Finally, seven years ago I decided to open my own in-home center and thus began my journey to realize my true passion in life – caring for and educating small children. My ultimate reward in this business has been seeing the smiles on the children’s faces when they discover that, in fact, they can…..when they thought they couldn’t. To see the pride in their hearts and joy on their parent’s faces when they learn a new skill or new word or even make a new friend in our close, family-like group. Moments like these make every long day, every huge mess, every cranky temper, and every tear shed when we must part ways, worth it. I have truly found my gift that God has bestowed upon me and I could not ask for more.
